Alt Rock

Alternative rock (or alt-rock) is a subgenre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground in the late 1970s and gained mainstream popularity in the 1990s. It is characterized by distorted guitars, introspective lyrics, and a "do-it-yourself" ethos that consciously departed from mainstream corporate rock and glam metal.
